Over the past three weeks we have been busy learning all about our classroom, exploring and learning how to use all the materials and toys. The children are starting to know each others names and our routines.
Two programs we use in preschool are Handwriting Without Tears Get Set For School and Fundations. HWT describes their program as a play-based curriculum that offers a full pre-writing program and materials that build critical skills like early math and literacy. It includes three programs designed to prepare children for school: Readiness & Writing, Language & Literacy, and Numbers & Math. We began the introductory activities last week. Concepts we have practiced so far include same and different, learning to shake hands, distinguishing between a variety of environmental and speech sounds, and distinguishing between letters and pictures or other symbols. Fundations is an introduction to letters and sounds. Baby Echo, our class owl, introduces a letter, sound, and keyword each week. So far I have introduced A, B. Below are examples of some of the activities that go along with HWT. Comments are closed.
