We started making our own Fall Leaf books. These books will come home over the course of the next two weeks. They reinforce color recognition as well as beginning reading skills. The books have predictable repetitive text that allow the children to be active participants in reading. The children who already completed their books were very proud that they were able to "read" them to a teacher or friend in the class. When the book comes home ask your child to read it to you. Enjoy!
After tasting three different kinds of apples we graphed the results to see which color apple was the preschool favorite. Red Wins! I also used this opportunity to talk about the concepts of more and less. Question of the day is something that will be part of our regular routine starting in January. The children will answer various yes and no questions on a graph and we will discuss the results. Felt board stories are a great way for children to be creative and act out what they remember from the story. By doing this they are building comprehension skills, vocabulary, and oral language skills. Ten Red Apples by Pat Hutchins was a big hit! Apple tree play dough mats let us practice number recognition and 1:1 correspondence. Leaf shape matching is fun and helps us with visual discrimination skills. It is always a good day in preschool when the cars and ramp are out!!! Shape sorting at its best!
Digging for the letters in our name from the rice sensory bin is always a good time, but you can't beat building the first letter of your name with a wiki stick!
We are finishing up our All About Me Unit. Everyone had a blast making a personal face puppet! Can you find your child???
