Long checkout lines at the Preschool Market! Part of the Fundations program includes a puzzle where the children match the letter with the keyword picture. For example, Aa is matched to the apple picture. A new sensory experience: flour mixed with baby oil makes great cakes at the sensory table. Oil pastels are a new tool at the easels. At the play dough table the children are adding the correct number of play dough chocolate chips to the cookies. We read the book Mouse Mess by Linnea Riley. The children were able to practice sequencing and retelling skills using the different items the mouse ate on the felt board. We followed up with a project where each child made his or her own Mouse and decide what their mouse likes to eat. This project worked on following step by step visual directions to create the mouse. Recent math concepts include putting things in size order from largest to smallest using pumpkins. We have also been talking about more and less using fall story problems. Introducing Mat Man! He is part of the Handwriting Without Tears program. We build Mat Man step by step through a song. His body is made with the different wood pieces that we will eventually use to build letters. Mat Man helps children learn size recognition, placement, and sequencing skills. He is always a big hit in the classroom!
Lots of fun dressing up in our costumes and parading through the school! Everyone did a great job performing Five Little Pumpkins!
To finish up our Fall theme, each class went on a nature walk looking for the last signs of fall before things change for a while.
Great writing practice drawing letters and shapes in sand. Some children loved pulling the seeds out of our field trip pumpkin, while others did not like the slimey feel!!! At the math center this month the children had to put the correct number of spiders on the plates. Pulling hidden jewels from dough at the play dough center helps build hand muscles for writing. Lots of hard work practicing visual discrimination skills with jack o lantern faces. Everyone loved playing at the sensory table with "Halloween Soup!"
Hope you all enjoyed our Five Little Pumpkins and spider project! |
